Profile of the Department:
The school of studies in Chemistry, JiwajiUniversity, Gwalior came into existence in 1971 as teaching and research centre. Over a period of time, it has acquired prestigious status at National level. Major areas of research carried out in this department includes, electro-analytical, environmental, organ metallic, coordination, kinetics, water management, ion exchange chromatography, treatment of radioactive water, synthesis of chemotherapeutics, homogeneous catalysis and industrial chemistry. There have been significant contributions in the frontier areas of chemical sciences by way of research publications in journals of repute. Various funding agencies is providing financial assistance.
The department has been adopted by DST under its program for improvement of science and technology (FIST). Facilities available : FTIR Spectrophotometer, Gas Chromatograph, Millipore water purifying system, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, Potentiostat,Versastat II, D.C. Polarograph, Pulse Polarograph, Karl Fischer titrator, Cyclic Voltammeter, Handy Air Sampler, COD Digester, BOD incubator, High Volume sampler, Ion Selective Electrodes, pH meter, Conductivity-meter, Flame Photometer, Refract meter along with instruments for routine analysis, Electrophoresis, Photochemical Reactor, Placement : Students of the department have got placement in different Government & Private sectors in the areas of Research and Development, teaching, Pharmaceutical Industries, Fine Chemicals Industries, Food Chemists etc. Many students are pursuing advance degree at leading Universities across the globe in the areas of Chemistry. The department is introducing the B.Sc. Honors, a three-year degree course, from the academic session 2019-20.

B.Voc. Cosmetic Science & Beauty Culture
The beauty business is growing at a phenomenal place in India. A large number of leading global brands are eyeing to enter the Indian market. On overview of this, School of Studies in Chemistry, Jiwaji University, Gwalior is introduced new “Cosmetic Science & Beauty Culture” course for related field interested students. This program is full time three-year graduate degree course. The exclusively designed curriculum of cosmetic science and beauty culture with technical assistance, practical study and training through visual communication and its application in the field of cosmetics, makeup and hair styling industry through classroom lectures, lab work, assignments. For interested and top-level students various research projects are also introduced. The main objectives of the course are :
- Cosmetology aims improving people well being as well as and maintaining an aesthetic healthy skin & body.
- Learn the basic principal of makeup application and develop your natural talent along with training.
- Cosmetic Science & Beauty Culture course is where a new student rediscovers a natural talents and skills with inspiring teachers and experts.
Course Covers:
- Knowledge of beauty and cosmetic products along with practical.
- Knowledge of body parts, yoga, tools and machine used for make-up, massage, hair dressing.
- Make-up skills, dress-up styles, personality developments.
- Direction for making their own salons and making it job oriented.
